A Wolf

So, here are a few things that I have found over the years and have kept close to heart about the wolf and why I feel strongly connected.

From "Animal Energies" by Gary Buffalo Horn Man and Sherry Firedancer:
There are several species of Wolf differing greatly in size, from 30 to 150 pounds. Before humans decimated their numbers, Wolves lived in a wide variety of climates from the arctic to the subtropics. All of their senses are excellent and well above human ability. The prey mostly on hoofed anmals, such as deer, moose and elk. Wolves hunt in packs, relying on endurance to run down weak and older animals. They have been known to run 35 miles a day in pursuit. With an extremely well developed societal organization, they act together to hunt and raise their young. They exercise a rigid hierarchy in their packs, with the dominant wolf calling the shots. There are no documented cases of a wild Wolf killing a human in North America, though there are cases that have been verified in Europe. Wolves actually perfer to avoid people. They are seldom aggressive towards each other and rarely do they engage in actual violence. Only when Wolves are having a dominance struggle or when a stay tries to infiltrate the pack will there be blood. (so me)

Wolf medicine can teach you to have a balance between your family's needs for you and your needs for you. Wolves are totally loyal to the pack, but do not ive up their identity to the pack. If Wolf has come into your life in some fashion, you are bein asked to look at where you are being too dependent and where you may be too independent. In both family and community, there needs to be a balane between you, me and us. Wold can help you learn this.

In Wolf terms, you can't be too loyal to the pack. In human terms, you can become too devoted to an idea, a group or family unit, particularly if the family is dysfnctional and robbing your power. If Wolf makes itself known to you, it may hold the message that it is time to break away from the pack you are in and start your own.

Also from "The Little Library of Earth Medicine - Wolf" by Kenneth Meadows:
Wolves are sensitive, artistic and intuitive - people to whom others turn for help. They value freedom and their own space, and are easily affected by others. They are philosophical, trusting, and genuine.

People of the Wolf Spirit intuitive, loyal, compassionate and protective, romantic, philosophical and adaptable nature that seeks to discover the true meaning or purpose of life. Emotional, perceptive and gentle, you often act instinctively rather than logically, and in times of difficulty, are always ready to offer sympathy and understanding to friends and colleagues who rely on you for emotional support.

Unfortunately, your natural empathy means you tend to absorb others' negative feelings, which can leave you emotionally drained. (so true!)
Trusting and unwordly, you are devoted to those close to you and can be easily hurt by those you love. Creative and sensitive, you have a highly developed aesthetic sense, and identify strongly with you creative or artistic endeavors, often perceiving criticism of your work as a personal attack. (SO TRUE AGAIN!)

In Heath matters, although drawn to natural remedies and preventative medicine, you enjoy food and drink, and tend to over-eat. You are therefore prone to unhealthy weight gain, ciculatory problems and high blood pressure (deadly accurate)

Wolf medicine is the courage to act according to your intuition and instincts rather than your intellect, and to be compassionate.

Another thing to think about is, in-fighting within a wolfpack, never results in death! Or at least, extremely rarely does. They will fight for dominance, but the moment one relents and show subordinance, the fight is over. A few ruffled 'feathers', a few strands of fur out of place, but rarely more than that. Dogs, on the other hand, will fight to the death. And people ask me why I prefer wolves!

Kinda like you, sweetie. Your bark is far worse than your bite. And this is coming from one that's never been on the receiving end of either! ;o)

I looked around for one of my books, that holds a lot of information on wolves, mythical/spiritual as well as practical. Can't find the darn thing. I have no idea where I put it. Maybe I'll find it when the time comes for my move!

Hi I'm back on-line. It's funny to read what your going through on your spiritual journey as I've been reflecting alot on my own lately. The problem with making a man your best friend is that when your questioning your life and your purpose they think that it has to do with them and they can get defensive. Women bitch! And men want to fix it, women just want you to listen so that they have a sounding board....you just want to get things out in the world so that you can figure things out yourself. That's when I miss talking to you....when we talk, we talk........and that's all. You and I don't open wounds in each other. Men sometimes can feel that your finding them deficent just because your feeling confused about life. Fact is women are moody emotional people at the best of times and unless we have access to happy pills we will always be riding a rollercoaster of some kind. (Where in the world did all of this come from??????I just came on to catch up on your life!!!!!LOL!!!!)

Hey - glad to see you back online again! Yeah it's kind of funny how things are coming back around again on certain facets of life. I've been doing a lot of reflecting and not enough meditating. That being said, I have also been at a point where I could reflect because I coudln't move forward, but I think things are going to be changing and fast, as is my usual way. I'm hoping I'll be able to make some decisions/announcements in the next couple of weeks. :)
