A Wolf

So, here are a few things that I have found over the years and have kept close to heart about the wolf and why I feel strongly connected.

From "Animal Energies" by Gary Buffalo Horn Man and Sherry Firedancer:
There are several species of Wolf differing greatly in size, from 30 to 150 pounds. Before humans decimated their numbers, Wolves lived in a wide variety of climates from the arctic to the subtropics. All of their senses are excellent and well above human ability. The prey mostly on hoofed anmals, such as deer, moose and elk. Wolves hunt in packs, relying on endurance to run down weak and older animals. They have been known to run 35 miles a day in pursuit. With an extremely well developed societal organization, they act together to hunt and raise their young. They exercise a rigid hierarchy in their packs, with the dominant wolf calling the shots. There are no documented cases of a wild Wolf killing a human in North America, though there are cases that have been verified in Europe. Wolves actually perfer to avoid people. They are seldom aggressive towards each other and rarely do they engage in actual violence. Only when Wolves are having a dominance struggle or when a stay tries to infiltrate the pack will there be blood. (so me)

Wolf medicine can teach you to have a balance between your family's needs for you and your needs for you. Wolves are totally loyal to the pack, but do not ive up their identity to the pack. If Wolf has come into your life in some fashion, you are bein asked to look at where you are being too dependent and where you may be too independent. In both family and community, there needs to be a balane between you, me and us. Wold can help you learn this.

In Wolf terms, you can't be too loyal to the pack. In human terms, you can become too devoted to an idea, a group or family unit, particularly if the family is dysfnctional and robbing your power. If Wolf makes itself known to you, it may hold the message that it is time to break away from the pack you are in and start your own.

Also from "The Little Library of Earth Medicine - Wolf" by Kenneth Meadows:
Wolves are sensitive, artistic and intuitive - people to whom others turn for help. They value freedom and their own space, and are easily affected by others. They are philosophical, trusting, and genuine.

People of the Wolf Spirit intuitive, loyal, compassionate and protective, romantic, philosophical and adaptable nature that seeks to discover the true meaning or purpose of life. Emotional, perceptive and gentle, you often act instinctively rather than logically, and in times of difficulty, are always ready to offer sympathy and understanding to friends and colleagues who rely on you for emotional support.

Unfortunately, your natural empathy means you tend to absorb others' negative feelings, which can leave you emotionally drained. (so true!)
Trusting and unwordly, you are devoted to those close to you and can be easily hurt by those you love. Creative and sensitive, you have a highly developed aesthetic sense, and identify strongly with you creative or artistic endeavors, often perceiving criticism of your work as a personal attack. (SO TRUE AGAIN!)

In Heath matters, although drawn to natural remedies and preventative medicine, you enjoy food and drink, and tend to over-eat. You are therefore prone to unhealthy weight gain, ciculatory problems and high blood pressure (deadly accurate)

Wolf medicine is the courage to act according to your intuition and instincts rather than your intellect, and to be compassionate.

Nicknames

I have had a few nick names, or screen names through the years. All of them have been derived from a story, and generally given to me by a guy.

Nova Scotia International Tattoo 1994 was my first tattoo and first real, true understanding of "partying". I was filling in at the dal music dept. main office for the secretary who was out on maternity leave furing the day - working 8am to 5pm (for Dr. Kemp who was also the director of the Tattoo choir and knew we were partying away the night and who would have had no give during the day if I wasn't on top of things). Then I would have to boot it down to the Halifax metro center, change and be stage ready by 6pm. That was the first year of the British Royal Marine Band. What an interesting group of guys! Anyway, as much as Bonnie was in avoidance mode, Jane and I were totally sucked in by them. Funny, decent enough dancers and could hold their liquor. Show was 7 to 10pm and from 10pm until the bars downtown closed, we would be out dancing and partying. It was 10 straight days. I only drank one night. Every other night I would only drink water while partying so I wouldn't be in trouble in the morning - all I had to worry about was battling tiredness - an everyday thing. :)

Anyway, the Deal Band were in the dome I think it was night 4. And over the course of the night, one of them started calling me a 'terror'. Bonnie and Jane picked up on it, and seeing as it's a play on my name of Terri and when you shorten that up to Terr, it basically came out after that all the time from Bonnie & Jane as Terror. So, for a number of years, well about 3 or 4, my computer handle was a version of that. It's a good thing I don't use it anymore, considering all of the problems around the world, I'm sure I'd have been put on a watch dog list long ago! hehehe. Anyway, every so often Bonnie still calls me that and ever so often, I call myself that! hehehe But, that was a long time ago and admittedly, I was a very angry and agressive person. I still am, but not all the time. I used t be pissed, angry and agressive all the time, now it's (generally) only when I'm pushed past me limit.

icewolf is very much me, but I honestly didn't think of it myself. It's a total case of fate. I had always been drawn to wolves, but I honestly didn't really do a lot of research on them until I was christened with the name, and then realized how well it fit! Way back when - 1996 or 1997 there was the start f the chat rooms online. I don't even remember the name of the place, but it was a website where you could pick your topic of interest and "chat" with people ala messenger, but en masse. Anyhoos, my topic of choice at the time was pro wrestling. There was a varied group of people from all over the world and there was a core of about 10 or 12 of us. I still wonder about those people and who'se where and doing what. Anyway, there were the 'war-room women' who actually went on to go to wrestling school with the fablous moolah. There were a couple of magazine writers, the majority of us were in college or university and a handful were in high school. The core group exchanged cards and letters and phone calls all the time - gifts for birthdays and xmas were a must. It was an awesome group. We often talked about meeting in a central place en masse, but never did. I did meet up with a few of them from that group at various times and places though, so that was a nice confirmation of people and all good experiences. Anyway, one of the guys in the gang was at college taking accounting and was rather bored in a class one day and realized that my phone # didn't have any zeros or ones, so the numbers of my phone # in Hfx were all letter based, so he said he played with the #'s for the full 3 hour class and figured out that my phone # - 423-9653 spelled out icewolf. I thought that was incredibly cool. So much so that I started adopting it in other online logins and such. Then I started reseraching the spiritual origins of the wolf and what wolves mean in the native american world, etc and there was no doubt about it - icewolf was me - who I was. I am still so thankful that he was bored that day, otherwise, I may not have found my inner spirit animal!

Next post, I'll try to post a bit about the 'inner wolf' :)

Long time no post

Well, sorry for the delay folks. Work got so busy a couple of weeks ago that there was no time to goof off and make posts at work and I was too tired and not wanting to think at all (or couldn't turn off the work brain to think about anything else) when I get home.

Anyway, we were able to get away for a couple of days this past Friday and Saturday, which I was sooooo looking forward to after working two weeks of 50+ hours for me and Van both. While the hours are rough, the rewards are nice in the form of a new 32" TV that Van bought for us to enjoy at some point when we can get back to not working all the time! :)

Anyway, F'ton this past weekend was beyond hot. I enjoy hot - I really do - but I like it at the Lake where when I get too hot and sticky, I can jump in and cool off. In F'ton, we were staying with a friend, who is really great, but moved in to a house where only 1 window opened...and it's a house with a tin roof...so, TL went out and bought a couple of fans just to survive. :)

A bonus though is that we were able to sit out on their back patio and play poker until about 10pm Friday night. Hot, sticky, no breeze so the cards stayed where you put them perfect except for the bugs outside night. Really enjoyed that. Also played poker outside on Saturday afternoon and got sun stroke, but an awesome tan and lots of laughs.

Looking forward to this coming Thursday night when Shakti and E are coming over to the house for a BBQ. It'll be E's first time here and Shakti's 2nd. She's really just coming back to visit the babies (who really don't like thunder and lightning storms). We'll talk, eat and talk some more knowing us :) It'll be good - rejuvenating!

Then, we work Friday and Saturday s we can have Sunday off, when we're hoping the weather will be good enough to go to the lake with a few friends and enjoy the heat, water and food. If it's not good enough weather, then we'll stay in town and have them over to the house for supper as again, a couple of them haven't been here before.

Anyhoos, that's about it from me. Not feeling very connected lately - too many computer ions floating around I guess hehehe. Perhaps if I'm so inclined, I'll tell soon the story of how icewolf came about.
